Azore Music Festival Poster
Working Knowledge of Graphic Design Software and Digital Tools:
This poster demonstrates my expertise in utilizing Adobe Illustrator. I skillfully arranged the elements to create a visually appealing and impactful composition. Employing various editing techniques, I successfully recolored a raster image for the background and converted smaller images into shapes, resulting in high-quality graphics. Additionally, I achieved precise and sharp text alignment by utilizing Illustrator’s features that determine the perfect spacing between elements.
Elements of Design:
The poster’s overall look is elevated by purposeful design choices incorporating various elements and design principles. Influenced by professional designers’ contemporary music posters, I focused on three main components for the composition: the background image, colors, and theme-related typography. Together, they play a crucial role in capturing the audience’s attention and conveying a message that motivates them to interact with the poster. Applying hierarchy, white space, and alignment further boosts its emotional effectiveness.
Creative Self-Expression and Originality:
After analyzing various professional music posters, I was able to design a poster that truly captures the theme’s essence. Alongside making specific aesthetic choices based on my research, I incorporated original elements that reflect the brand’s tone and message. It consisted of natural elements, such as trees and insects, which I tried to complement with highly stylized fonts. The way I utilized the tools to develop my concept demonstrates my ability to think creatively and deliver high-quality work.
Evidence of Thoughtful and Appropriate Critique Skills:
I revised the poster based on the feedback I received. Getting another pair of eyes on my design helped me catch any issues I might have missed. When I initially created the poster, I was concerned that the title wasn’t standing out enough, so I added an outline and adjusted the drop shadow’s position to make the letters more readable. I also positioned a clear call to action above the QR code to reduce confusion and generate interest that would encourage audience interaction.
Evidence of Following Directions:
I’ve based the design brief for this project on the design process and objectives I learned in previous classes. Following the guidelines I’ve acquired, such as gathering resources and brainstorming design concepts before implementing them, has been very helpful in ensuring that I finish on time and that the final composition contains all the necessary elements.
Craftsmanship and Attention to Detail:
I put a lot of thought into designing the poster to make sure that all the design elements work together effectively to communicate with the target audience. For instance, I adjusted the QR code to the right size for easy scanning with a smartphone camera. I also focused on using colors, images, and fonts that would help convey the intended message. I ensured that all the elements in this composition support the brand’s message and resonate with the target audience in a unified and compelling way, which is evident in the final design.
